Session Checklist

Clients often ask what they should bring to their session.  Here is a basic list:

  • the final mixes
  • any alternate mixes you have, especially if you are unsure of anything in your final mixes (vocal up/down versions, for example)
  • any final mix reference copies that include additional processing NOT on the final mixes (extra limiting for increased level, for example).  These can sometimes sound quite different than the mixes delivered for mastering so it is helpful to see what you have been hearing / approved
  • the sequence
  • a list of final song titles / artist name / album name exactly as it should appear on the CD-Text metadata
  • ISRC codes and UPC/EAN code if you want them encoded on the master
  • a high quality JPEG of the album cover if you want it embedded in your digital master files
