The Engineer
J. LaPointe is the owner, founder and mastering engineer at Archive Mastering. He has earned an estimable reputation in the independent music community for his great ears, obsessive attention to detail, and steadfast DIY work ethic.

After studying physics and engineering at Dalhousie University, LaPointe spent his early to mid twenties as a member of the band NORTH of AMERICA, releasing five records, and touring the US, Canada, and Europe extensively. Down time from the band was spent working as a recording engineer, assembling efficient project studios, and composing music for TV and film.
LaPointe opened Archive Mastering in early 2003 in response to an increasing demand for top tier mastering in Atlantic Canada. His consistently high level of work has since attracted clients from across Canada, the USA, Europe, the UK, and Japan.
A keen interest in audio electronics and a firm belief that simpler-is-better has led LaPointe to design and build many pieces of custom equipment now in use in the studio, including tube tape repro amps, equalizers, the totally passive analog transfer/monitor console, and a number of unique digital processors coded in the VST format.
In his time off, LaPointe enjoys amateur rocketry, recording with his band INSTRUMENTS, and traveling with his wife Emily and their children Rowan and Sullivan.
