In 2025 we see two compelling reasons to make Dolby ATMOS versions of your masters:
1) When done well, ATMOS has the potential to provide an improved headphone listening experience vs the standard stereo masters. We feel it better represents the size and envelopment of what we hear on the speakers in our mastering room, and that’s exciting to us!
2) Some labels and distributors now require ATMOS versions as part of their standard deliverables. If you need ‘em, you need ‘em.

Keep it simple! We want to use the least number of stems necessary to tastefully move your music into the ATMOS space. For most productions we find even 2-4 stems can do amazing things.
Optimize for headphones (binaural playback). Sorry Dolby, nobody is listening to ATMOS music on speakers.
It has to be an improvement vs the stereo master in headphones. Same impact as the stereo version, just with more space to hear into the song.

Ideally you’ll be submitting stereo stems (no mono stems). Every production is different, and we’ll help you out with more specific recommendations once you’ve booked your project.
It’s important that your stems contain all of the elements in the stereo mix, and that when summed at unity gain recreate the stereo mix exactly (we do realize this may not be 100% possible if your mix relies on heavy master bus processing - this is not a problem and we can work around it).
In any case, it need not be complicated, and we’ll lead you through it every step of the way.

It’s a little bit of both. The production of Dolby ATMOS music for streaming is an entirely new workflow that doesn’t quite fit into the traditional definitions of mixing or mastering.
What’s important to understand is that this is the last stop - the files you receive from us are your Dolby ATMOS masters, 100% ready to be delivered to the streaming services.
